Which Jesus do you serve?
You can often tell a Christian’s view of their savior by how they address Him. Some see Him as the man on the cross and they go back to the cross over and over again. Filled with a feeling of unworthiness and gratitude, they have a master-slave relationship with their creator. Some see Jesus as the teacher in the desert who multiplied bread and fish to a multitude, twice. Jesus becomes all about the wonders and miracles, a vending machine, if you will. Others see the Jesus who amazed and bewildered the Pharisees with His understanding of what He wrote, (Big Surprise!) To them, Jesus is the “higher knowledge” a Gnostic might have been looking for. But what Jesus do you serve? The Jesus in the manger? The Jesus that died and rose again? The Jesus that healed the sick or forgave sins or had compassion on the leaderless, or the Jesus that ascended into heaven and is somewhere far off? What is your picture of your savior?

My picture of my savior is that of a best friend. At the conference I just kept thinking “eternal friendship” and the concept just kind of stuck with me. We spend time together, enjoy each other, I can confide and find comfort in Him, and I know He will call me out on the yuck in my life.
And it’s pretty stinking cool to have an all-powerful, all-knowing best friend…
God is more like a teacher that I absolutely adore. I’m friends with Him, but I also respect Him and trust Him to know more than me. I can go to Him when I’m going through a tough time and am secure in knowing the feedback I get is right. And we love each other.
